Poetry Day 26th April 2018: Listen & Surprise!

Posted on: Thursday, January 01, 1970

Event: Performance and Presentation
Date: 26th April 2018
Time: 7pm
Venue: Fingal County Hall, Main Street, Swords, Co. Dublin.
Web Page: Poetry Day with Fingal Libraries

Fingal Libraries asked me to conceive a project for Poetry Day 2018. Considering the given theme of "Poetry Surprises" and my own prevailing ruminations on the act and meaning of listening, I came up with a project centred on response. There are several texts (Poem Choices) on the Project Page, all by Irish poets, in both Irish and English, and the idea is to respond to any aspect of them with another creative work in any digital medium.

Those contributions considered most surprising by the three judges will receive prizes of book tokens, one in each age category--Under 12s; 12-18; Over 18. All contributions will go online at a dedicated Tumblr page on Poetry Day, and will be displayed on a screen in the Atrium in Swords County Hall.

At 7pm on the night, I will be saying a few poems and talking about listening to poems.

All are welcome. Admission is free.
